My May Favorites- Health, Chronic Pain Management, Self Growth

    June 13, 2021 | by Tess

With it being one week into June, I want to share some of my favorite items from May, ranging from products I use to manage my headache to my favorite books to items for school. Here are my May favorites!

Health/Wellness - Different products I use to exercise, focus on my mental health, and help during pain spikes.

    • Jumprope

If you are looking for a fun way to get some movement into your day, I recommend jump roping! Jump Roping is a great way to improve your stamina and coordination.

    • Yoga bag and yoga mat

If you want to get some light movement into your day while practicing relaxation techniques, I recommend yoga. Yoga is a great form of light exercise and it has helped me manage stress and improve my flexibility and strength.

    • Journal

Recently, I have started journaling to get all my thoughts down. This habit helps manage stress and allows me to focus on mental health. I tend to bottle up my negative thoughts and emotions, and journaling allows me to acknowledge and let go of these thoughts.

    • “Headache Hat”

When I have a spike in my pain, I use a headache hat, or a type of ice pack that is customized for headache use, and this helps lower my pain to the baseline level.

    • Lavender lotion and aromatherapy oils

For many people, a diffuser and lavender lotion helps with improved sleep patterns, stress relief, and pain relief. Whenever I have a spike in my headache, a diffuser with aromatherapy oils helps bring my pain back to my baseline level.

    School

    • Planner

My planner is an essential product I have for school. Every morning, I like to write down my schedule for the day and the activities I need to get done. Having a planner improves organization and productivity!

    • Colored pens

When using my planner, I use colored pens to color-code the different activities I have. It makes writing in a planner more fun and further organizes my schedule.

    • Blue Light Glasses

I bought blue light glasses at the beginning of the school year because of online school. One of my headache triggers is looking at a computer for a long period of time, and I wanted to limit the chance of my pain increasing due to this trigger. Blue light glasses have helped me and they also prevent digital eye strain and glare from the computer screen.

Books- one of my goals this month was to get back into reading, and here are some books I really liked! The genres range from fantasy to realistic fiction to self growth books.

    • We Were Liars by E. Lockhart
    • One of Us Is Lying by Karen McManus
    • Atomic Habits by James Clear
    • Grit by Angela Duckworth
    • The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue by V.E. Schwab
